10 Batman Stories That Should Be Adapted Into Animated Films
Though Marvel Studios may be leading the superhero box office on the big screen, there's no denying that DC leads the animation front. There have been 17 feature-length, direct-to-video releases since 2007, with two or three made per year. They've collectively grossed $88.8 million and have been met with acclaim from both critics and audiences. Five of these films have featured Batman, and have been adapted from some of the character's most iconic storylines: Gotham Knight (set between the events of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight), Batman: Under the Red Hood (adapted from A Death in the Family and Under the Hood), Batman: Year One, and The Dark Knight Returns, which was split into two parts. DC announced at San Diego Comic-Con this year that two new Bat-centric projects were in development, titled Son of Batman (from Grant Morrison's Batman and Son storyline) and Batman: Assault on Arkham (which takes place in the same universe as the wildly successful Arkham games). I've taken a look back at some of Batman's best comic storylines, and found ten that are worthy of the same animated treatment.
