10 Best & 10 Worst Horror Movies Coming In 2017
10. Welcome To Willits
Adapted from a proof of concept short that premiered to favourable reviews at the 2015 SXSW Film Festival, Welcome to Willits – the debut feature of fraternal filmmaking duo director Trevor Ryan and screenwriter Tim Ryan – is a sci-fi horror hybrid featuring drug-induced paranoia, alien invaders that may or may not be real and, of course, plenty of carnage.
Set in Northern California’s infamous marijuana-growing region, the Emerald Triangle, the film focuses on pot farmer Brock (played by Bill Sage, recently seen eating human flesh in cannibal horror We Are What We Are), his family and a ragtag group of lost campers – including youngest Culkin sibling Rory – as they defend themselves from the apparent alien threat in the remote woods.
While the premise might sound a little B-movie, the addition of Sage and Culkin add some indie credentials to Welcome to Willits and amongst the glut on uninspired horror sequels coming next year, it’s bound to be a refreshing change.
