10 Best Accidental Horror Movies
1. Requiem For A Dream
Electroconvulsive therapy, an evil sentient fridge, amputations, tonnes of bloodshed: is this a powerful exploration of addiction or a twisted horror movie?
The answer to that question isn't so clear, as Requiem for a Dream walks such a fine line between scary and emotional.
Requiem follows the lives of four protagonists, Harry, Marion, Tyrone and Harry's mother Sara, as they all deal with an addiction to narcotics. Everything starts idyllic, as the youngsters plan for their future and Sara finds a new reason to be hopeful, but it all comes crashing down as their addictions become unbearable, and the landscape of their lives become entrenched with crime, desperation and mental instability.
It's not an easy watch, as you quickly fall for the charm of the central cast, only to see them all go through hell. There's such a sublime focus on pacing, making the entire movie feel like a crescendo, leading up to the chaotic finale that throws almost every disturbing concept your way.
It's got grotesque sex, violence, tragedy and all things that make horror what it is, despite this film not being a part of that genre.
