10 Best Coming Of Age Horror Movies

3. Super Dark Times

From the troubling relationships between teen girls we now move on to roasting teen boys, and what better film to do that with than 2017’s fittingly dark Super Dark Times.

Taking a very different tone to the wholesome friendship groups we see in other horrors (It, It Follows, etc.) this movie looks at the competitive, strange and sometimes toxic relationships between our two main men: Zach and Josh.

In a room plastered with cut-outs of half-naked women, the two boys come across the item that will ultimately cause the downfall of both their friendship and their respective mental-states.

Both crushing on a fellow teen girl, the two of them try to hold back a terrible secret and their conflicting feelings toward each other and the world.

The violence, both of the bloody kind and the more subtle sort, reeks of the ‘boys will be boys’ paradigm and these days is sure to be met with all sorts of analysis. It’s an uncomfortable, unnerving portrait of the male teenage years and accountability that’s sure to leave you reeling.
