Three sequels later, with multiple spin-offs already confirmed and even more coming down the line, it’s safe to say John Wick has been somewhat of a success. In all seriousness though, the John Wick universe is nothing short of special, orchestrated by The Matrix's Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves.

In what started out back in 2014 as a simple action film following a former hitman who embarks on a mass killing spree to avenge his murdered dog and the bloodbath that ensues as a result, it’s truly incredible to see the cinematic journey undertaken by John Wick since.

The first film, however, was unlike any action movie developed within the Western hemisphere. It’s slick, stylish and pulls no punches whatsoever as it’s clear to see Stahelski opted for an authentic and practical approach as opposed to using animation for assistance.

As well as this, he hired real martial artists for the picture to ensure that said authenticity he craved was replicated for his actors and audience. John Wick may appear on the surface as your typical shoot-'em-up action flick, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

It’s an emotional but exhilarating movie, including a real deeper meaning inspired by ancient mythology. Reeves has truthfully made the role his own, and at the ripe age of 58 years old, he is continuing to push physical boundaries in the franchise to this day - so, kudos to you, sir.
