The greatest party that never happened but a great stand-alone documentary that did.

Billy McFarland and Ja Rule (real name Jeffrey Bruce Atkins) co-founded the talent booking agency, Frye Media Inc and set out to promote their app of the same name by hosting the luxury music event, Fyre Festival.

Social media influencers on Instagram were paid to plug the festival which was scheduled to take place over two weekends in April and May 2017. A promotional video featuring private jets, supermodels and Pablo Escobar's old island, Norman's Cay, caused a social media buzz with tickets almost selling out within 48 hours.

However, instead of the expected luxurious villas, gourmet cuisine, treasure hunts and music acts, attendees endured soggy tents, cheese on toast and barbaric hunts for their own luggage and supplies.

Multiple lawsuits were filed against the co-founders with Billy McFarland later charged for wired fraud, totalling $27.4 million, and sentences to six years in prison. Fyre captures this all.
