6. Long Shot

This 40 minute, original gem is a combination of two popular documentary topics, murder and baseball, centered around the question "What If?".

In the Spring of 2003, Juan Catalan was misidentified and arrested for the murder of 16 year old, Martha Puebla. High stakes and huge odds would have to be overcome. The prosecution attorney had never lost a murder case previously and, if a guilty verdict were to be reached, Juan could well be looking at a death sentence.

On the night of the murder, 12th May, Juan attended a LA Dodger's baseball game with his family. All Juan had to do along with his defence attorney, Todd Melnik, was prove that he was there. Sounds simple enough, but both men would have to curb their enthusiasm.

Possession of the tickets, grainy footage of the game and testimony from Juan's daughter wasn't concrete enough evidence to place the accused at the stadium. Melnik sought out one last glimmer of hope, the long shot. Juan's fate now extraordinarily rested on the shoulders of American comedian, Larry David.

'What if' you haven't seen Long Shot yet? Well not to worry, it's a Netflix original. Go and watch it.
