Saw has gone on long enough to bore us all to death now. Never mind the fancy traps and gory deaths, its repetition will be the real end of us all - or at least, that's what one would think before watching Jigsaw.
Refreshingly returning back to the roots of the original movie, Jigsaw tells the tale of the titular killer seemingly returned from the dead to murder a whole new round of victims with his sadistic traps, begging the question of how in the heck it's at all possible for John Kramer to be back. Taking a circle saw to the neck really tends to mess with being alive.
Jigsaw is a fabulous new wind for the franchise, melding together numerous different facets of filmmaking to create something both interesting and unnerving. For fans of the series, it's similar enough to be entertaining as another torture porn Saw entry, and for those that have had enough of that - there's a deeper, more intricate story bubbling away under the surface. It's well worth a watch, and 'tis the season after all.
