6. What Doesn't Kill Us

You can take pretty much everything discussed in the entry on American Zombie and apply it here, as this goofy mockumentary is another subversive look at the modern-day through the lens of zombification. However, What Doesn't Kill Us easily succeeds at being funnier, more creative and delivering a stronger message. That's why it sits higher!

The movie is a faux-documentary set in a world where a zombie apocalypse came close to destroying humanity, only for a cure to be found - hooray! Now that the zombies (or rather, necrosapians) can function again, they are reintroduced into everyday life. Sadly, if you thought the workforce was tough enough already, imagine doing it as a walking corpse. Like the film's tag says, "being dead was way easier".

There's a brilliant sense of humour to this flick that will keep you giggling throughout the whole runtime. The novelty of seeing the undead trying to work in an office, play sports, or more is a delightfully goofy treat, and the likeable characters and world-building keep that ball rolling.

The whole thing is a little disjointed, feeling more like a collection of amusing zombie shorts rather than a fully cohesive narrative. But you'll have a wonderful time if you simply accept it for what it is.
