This concept ties directly into the franchise's iconic kills, since one tiny action often kickstarts a chain reaction that results in somebody meeting a sticky end.

With Bloodlines being the sixth instalment, franchise veterans should be hyper-alert any time a death seems imminent. And yet, this latest sequel catches viewers out time and time again.

When protagonist Stefani realises her family has been marked by Death, she warns her brother, Erik, that he's in grave danger. Even after a van nearly hits him, Erik dismisses his sister's theory, though Stefani emphasises that everything around Erik is potentially lethal, including two kids nearby playing with a football.

So, when Erik messes around with a garbage truck, viewers can tell things are about to turn nasty, but as the vehicle drives off, the danger seemingly passes. However, as Erik and Stefani's cousin Julia runs by, the kids knock her into a trash bin with the football, causing her to be scooped into the garbage truck. Despite Stefani's best efforts to pull Julia out, she's crushed by the compactor, leaving Stefani holding her disembodied arm.

Even though Julia's demise is memorable in itself, the foreshadowing and red herrings made it more shocking.
