10 Best Horror Movie Musicals To Watch This Halloween 2020
6. The Phantom Of The Opera (2004)
We can't deny it, Joel Schumacher's musical adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera is a significant downgrade from Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical of the same name (especially with Gerald Butler's vocal performance). But nevertheless, it's still a potent piece of theatrical drama worth watching.
The story is somewhat a 'Beauty and The Beast' tale as a disfigured man conceals himself underneath the Paris Opera House. A young chorus girl named Christine discovers him and become's his musical obsession as he trains her and helps her to become the leading lady of the Opera house.
If there's one thing perfect about Schumacher's Phantom of the Opera, it's the aesthetic. The cinematography has a natural look to allow for the visuals to look like a moving painting. Every single set piece, every costume, every cosmetic design is beautiful and detailed. Furthermore, the harrowing Lloyd Webber score truly enhances the drama of the narrative.
It may not live up to the stage version - but it's still a grand tale to behold.
