10 Best Horror Movies By Non-Horror Directors

4. 28 Days Later - Danny Boyle

Zombie lore is nothing new but it is experiencing a current wave of unparalleled popularity that was kicked off by Danny Boyle€™s 28 Days Later. The purists among you might complain that it was actually a €œrage virus€ or some other such nonsense but it€™s like Chief Justice Potter Stewart said: €œI know it when I see it, and I see zombies.€ That€™s probably what he said anyway. Danny Boyle is perhaps the most perfect example of a director who cannot be tied down to any one particular genre. In his short but prolific career, he has made a thriller, a drama, a horror, a children€™s movie, a sci-fi epic, a drug movie, an Indian romance, some things that defy genre, and yes - also a horror (and that€™s to say nothing of his stage work or his directing of the 2012 Olympics Ceremony). In nearly all of these efforts he has shown magnificent understanding of the genres€™ unique nuances, and his crack at the undead is yet another cultural touchstone (and made on a shoestring budget to boot!).
