4. Cherry Darling - Planet Terror
"I broke my leg." When Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino teamed up to release Grindhouse, their two part throwback to the exploitation films they grew up watching, Rodriguez seemed to be the one to get off with the better deal. While Death proof was panned by critics, Planet Terror, the campy, gore laden shocker that accompanied it was far better received. Its femme fatal lead Cherry Darling is one major factor in its brilliance. A stripper for a night club with a seedy ex, Cherry loses her leg very early on in the film. Does this mutilation stop her? Not for long. Soon she's up and about, roundhouse kicking zombies with a makeshift peg-leg. Once the mutant military try to stop her however, she ups her game. Attaching no less than an automatic assault rifle to her stump she guns down soldiers and zombies with little regard for the laws of nature or logic. Snapping one liners like nobodies business and even concluding by upgrading one more to a minigun (Yes, that's right, the spinny death machine), Ms Darling really is the zombie slayer that only Rodriquez could dream up.
