Arguably one of the most well-known vampire movies is Bram Stoker’s Dracula from 1992, directed and produced by the iconic Francis Ford Cappola.

Based on the titular novel, it tells the story of Count Dracula seeking the reincarnation of his deceased wife and Dr Van Helsing’s attempt to stop his monstrous ways. At two hours long the film takes you on a wild ride of love, murder and terrible English accents, all of course culminating in the death of Dracula himself.

After having both his throat slashed and a stake driven through his heart, Dracula knows he is not long for this world. He retreats to the church where centuries ago he denounced God and swore he would avenge his dead wife, and lies dying in the arms of Mina, her reincarnation.

Their final moments are tender and emotional, with Dracula asking Mina to end his life as a mercy. The pair kiss and Mina stabs him through the heart, killing him and allowing for him and his wife to be reunited in heaven.

It’s all a bit sappy, yes, but it’s classic. A bit like Romeo and Juliet if Romeo was really really old and also a vampire.
