10 Best ‘I’m Dead And I Know It’ Moments In Vampire Horror Movies

1. Thirst - Tae-ju

Thirst 2009 ending Park Chan-wook
Focus Features

This 2009 offering comes from the director of the acclaimed The Handmaiden, South Korea’s own Park Chan-wook.

The film centres on a Catholic priest who finds himself transformed into a vampire when a medical trial goes wrong. After he appears to have miraculously recovered from a deadly disease (thanks to the ol’ vampirism), his congregation see him as a real biblical hero - and amongst the impressed parishioners is his childhood friend’s wife, Tae-ju.

One thing leads to another and the priest ends up turning Tae-ju into a fellow vampire, at which point her ruthless nature is revealed when she kills with reckless abandon. The priest has maintained his moral compass all along and decides he has to put an end to them both, taking Tae-Ju into an uncovered field with the dawn approaching - knowing the sun will soon burn them alive.

Tae-ju unsurprisingly isn’t too happy about this. She tries to run, tries to hide in the car boot and after one more half-hearted attempt at covering herself, she consigns herself to death and sits on the car’s hood with her lover. Sighing, changing into other shoes and sharing the last sip of their drink they sit together and watch the sun come up.
