5. The Bear - Annihilation

The unforgettable bear monster scene from Annihilation is a lot to take in.

It's a scene defined by death, with the creature's arrival signalled by its roar, which resembles the dying screams of Cass (Tuva Novotny), who the bear mauled earlier, resulting in the Shimmer fusing their DNA together.

The creature then enters the room where a paranoid Anya (Gina Rodriguez) has tied up her remaining teammates, and after Anya shoots it, it mauls her to death, ripping off her jaw.

The bear then turns its attention to Lena (Natalie Portman), but Josie (Tessa Thompson) makes the save by blasting its face off with a machine gun.

This wasn't just brutally violent, it was queasy and deeply unsettling in a way few death scenes are.
