10 Best Movie Trailers Of 2018
1. Mission: Impossible - Fallout
There have been dozens of feature-length films released this year that do not pack even a fifth of the punch that the first trailer for director Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible - Fallout does in two-and-half-minutes.
Set to Imagine Dragon's Friction, mixed delightfully with the iconic Mission: Impossible theme, this thing was and is still to-this-day an utter adrenaline rush. It gave audiences their first glimpses at what would come to be some of the greatest action sequences of the decade, including the bathroom fight sequence and the Paris chase.
It also served as an exquisite showcase for Rob Hardy's jaw-dropping cinematography, as well as selling audiences on the idea that this wasn't just another M:I film, it was the culmination of all that had come before it. From featuring returning characters like Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa, Ving Rhames' Luther, Simon Pegg's Benji, Sean Harris' Solomon Lane, and even Michelle Monaghan's Julia, to highlighting key lines like "the fallout of all your good intentions", this trailer expertly sold this as the first time the narratives of the separate films would be coming together into one story, making it feel like this huge crossover event.
The power of the shot featuring Henry Cavill's reloading arms can also not be overstated.
Overall, this trailer was so phenomenally well-crafted that seeing it on the big-screen often meant that it stayed with you much longer than whatever film it was playing in front of.
