10 Best Movie Trailers Of 2018

2. Godzilla: King Of Monsters

Godzilla King Of Monsters
Legendary

The last American Godzilla film did very well for itself at the box office but left a bit a sour taste in the mouths of a lot of audience members. Whether it was for its relative lack of monster-action, bland lead characters, or dull plotting, the film didn't exactly leave a lasting impression on most viewers. So while a sequel had been announced for years, this time directed by Michael Dougherty, the buzz surrounding the film was lukewarm at best.

Then, this happened.

This trailer could not have been much more of a direct step away from the previous installment, in the best way possible. Filled to the brim with Godzilla action and glamor shots of monsters of all shapes and sizes, this thing looked and felt absolutely gargantuan, as a Godzilla film should. Whereas the prior film shied away from its more overtly Toho influences, this trailer sold King of Monsters as a multi-million dollar love letter to those films.

Moving in a more post-apocalyptic direction is inspired and directly harkens to what the Japanese films have been doing for several years now, providing an entirely new battleground for these monsters to fight on. And perhaps most importantly of all, the use of Clair De Lune as the musical backdrop is gorgeous and immediately compelling. It goes so thoroughly against the grain of the standard modern movie trailer musical choice that it feels flat-out revolutionary.

All hail the King, indeed.
