10 Best Steven Spielberg Films

3. E.T The Extraterrestrial

One of Spielberg’s most enduring works E.T manages to hit several audience demographics at the same time by being about many themes all at once.

E.T tells the story of a lonely young boy who befriends an alien stranded on earth. The two form a connection when the government learns of E.T’s existence and decides to hunt him down in the name of science.

Like many of Spielberg's films there is a lot going on storywise here. Younger audiences come for the alien and stay for the action scenes which include one such scene that has slipped into cinematic legend. However, adult audiences come and stay for the rich characters. Elliot, our leading young man, is lonely BUT he’s lonely because his parents have just divorced and he wants a friend. What better than a friend who’s just as lonely as he is?

It’s well shot, well written and an all round crowd pleaser.
