10 Best Superhero Films Of The 2010s
4. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018)
Tom Holland and the MCU have a great thing going on with Spider-Man right now. But with Peter Parker being a main fixture of that franchise, Sony needed a new Spider-Man. Miles Morales was that Spider-Man.
After Peter Parker is killed, Miles goes on a journey to become the next web-slinging hero, but soon discovers the multiple parallel universes with their own Spider-heroes, including Spider-Gwen, SP//dr, and Spider-Ham, as well as another Peter who shows Miles the ropes while trying to takedown the enormous Kingpin.
The first thing to strike you about the film is its visual style. There is no film anywhere in the world that looks like Spider-Verse, and it looks absolutely astonishing. It perfectly marries the look of a 2D animated film with textures and ink blotting you would find on a comic strip, on top of virtual cinematography that fully takes advantage of the hero's powers and the villain's size. There's also subtle little gags hiding in every scene, so keep an eye out for the bagel.
Storywise, it's also excellent. Miles is a character who almost doesn't want to live up to his expectations, or his parents expectations of him. He's almost afraid to show his true self, giving vulnerability which makes Miles all the more relatable to younger viewers, especially those of black and hespanic heritage.
With respect to Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland, Into The Spider-Verse is the best Spider-Man movie ever made. Period.
