10 Best War Films NOT About The US Military
2. Kajaki
While films like The Hurt Locker and Jarhead have gone into detail on the American perspective of modern warfare, specifically the conflict in Afghanistan among others, the viewpoint has been somewhat narrowed. This morally grey operation that raged for a good part of the last two decades has been tackled several times in Hollywood, but it's not very we get a perspective from the side of the British.
The 2014 release Kajaki, also known as Kilo Two Bravo stands as an extremely underrated production. Directed by Paul Katis and aiming for absolute realism, the film takes a simple story and brings into gritty, unflinching focus.
Kajaki adapts the real life story of British soldier Mark Wright and his unit as they provide reconnaissance in Helmand province in 2006. On a regular patrol, catastrophe ensues as the troopers find themselves trapped in a minefield left by the Soviets two decades earlier.
It's a gruelling waiting game as gruesome injuries begin to stack up and efforts at rescue go awry. Kilo Two Brave makes full use of its simple context to create one of the most intense and harrowing experiences ever seen in a moder war film. The fact that everything in the film happened for real only heightens its impact.
