10 Big Movies That Suffered Even Bigger Disasters Whilst Being Made
1. Jaws
Jaws by now is a classic, directed by Steven Speilberg in 1975, looking at the disaster of a dangerous shark and sparking many people's fear of swimming in the sea for years to come.
It is a well known fact that the actual shark animatronic was a disaster to get right - failing when being controlled in waters and just not looking as realistic as the team wanted it to. But behind the scenes, there were even bigger issues.
Take one of the most famous scenes of the film itself in which the ship crew talk about their experiences with shark attacks in their own past. Actor Robert Shaw won awards for his speech as shark hunter Quint, famous for being extended for his performance. On set, the crew were warned of Shaw's behaviour with alcohol, stopping him from drinking in bars between takes.
In fact, when getting to record the scene itself, Shaw was so drunk they had to walk him on to set and eventually cease filming for another day until he had sobered up.
Another problem arose when Hollywood gave Speilberg a stuntman who was unqualified at diving for a scene in which he was attacked in a shark cage, suffering so much trauma with his oxygen tank and fear or nearly drowning, he refused to continue.
