10 Biggest Movie Controversies Of 2018
6. Weaponised Autism - The Predator
The script for Shane Black's The Predator had a peculiar emphasis on developmental disorders, with Thomas Jane's character being stricken with Tourette's syndromes for laughs, which is especially interesting as Black himself also suffers from the condition.
But more bizarre is the asinine decision to reveal that the Ultimate Predator wanted to harvest the DNA of young autistic boy Rory (Jacob Tremblay), because autism can apparently help a Predator become a more efficient hunter. Right.
Naturally the big reveal was widely scoffed at by baffled fans, but many people living with autism also voiced their displeasure online that the condition was represented in such a hackneyed, unrealistic way.
After all, nobody with autism has ever been able to suddenly decode a foreign language without having a prior contextual basis for it. Just...no.
