9. The Protostar Warp Reveal

Star Trek: Prodigy opens on a mystery: how did this Federation starship, the USS Protostar, come to be stranded in the Delta Quadrant? The technology on-board, not to mention the addition of the Janeway Hologram, prove that it must have been constructed and lost after the Caretaker's Array was destroyed, so that couldn't have been the route the ship took.

The clue was in the name the whole time, though it was not discovered until episode five. Jankum Pog, the engineer of this rag-tag crew, notes that there is something on-board the ship in addition to the dual warp cores sitting in the stardrive section. It is, however, Gwyn who reveals that the ship is a highly experimental vessel - contain a proton star.

This star gives the ship its name and ensures that the previous top speeds of Starfleet vessels - Warp 10 notwithstanding - are a thing of the past. Just before the mid-season break, the Protostar engages this drive, leaving the Diviner and Drednok in their dust, vanishing off into the distance, tearing through space like a vessel possessed.

Unfortunately, audiences now have to wait until 2022 to find out what comes next!
