10 Biggest WTF Moments From This Year's Summer Films
5. Incredibles 2 - The Raccoon Fight
Few people would have guessed that one of the greatest action setpieces of the summer would be a baby fighting a raccoon, but then again, audiences should know by now to never underestimate a film made by Brad Bird.
Incredibles 2 delivered on every front, featuring a thrilling narrative, gut-busting jokes, and some of the most stunning action sequences of the year. But of all the great sequences, easily the most WTF is the fight between Jack-Jack and the raccoon.
After Mr. Incredible falls asleep, Jack-Jack stays up watching late night television, only to see a raccoon outside of the house. Mistaking the raccoon's distinctive black fur around its eyes as a mask similar to that of the bank robbers on television, Jack-Jack takes justice into his own hands and begins using all of his powers in a fight against the raccoon.
Despite its delightfully small-scale stakes, Bird shoots the fight as though it were a monumental clash of titans, which makes it all the more wonderful. And seeing Jack-Jack nearly eviscerate the raccoon with his fire powers produces far more joy than one might expect.
Considering that this sequence's only real narrative purpose is to further show off Jack-Jack's powers and for Mr. Incredible to discover them at the conclusion of it, it's essentially a five-minute self-contained sequence unto itself. And yet it is the best part of the whole film.
