Award-winning writer Kay Mellor adapted her 1992 play A Passionate Woman for the small screen in 2010 when she enlisted the acting services of Billie Piper to tell the real life story of a trapped 1950s housewife whose life is turned upside down by a handsome Polish man at her local dance hall. The two-part period drama is an engrossing insight into Betty's lacklustre life and the story is effortlessly brought to life with spades of relatable emotion by Billie as her character deals with the devastating consequences of her whirlwind affair. Definitely worth checking out if you love a bit of gritty drama. And who doesn't? Billie's Northern accent is on tip top form, too.
