10 Blatantly Unfinished Movies (That Were Released Anyway)
7. The Devil Inside
This one might be the
most famous—or infamous—example of an unfinished film making it to the multiplex
despite glaring deficiencies, and it did brew up quite a storm of controversy
upon its 2012 release.
Directed by Stay Alive helmer William Brent Bell—so viewers knew they were in good hands—the film is a standard enough found footage snore-fest, another carbon copy of the then-unstoppable Paranormal Activity series whose clones were produced every few weeks and destined to be forgotten immediately after release.
That is, until its infamous ending—or rather, lack thereof.
Minutes after hitting the seventy minute mark and officially qualifying for even the most conservative definition of feature film length, the movie ends with a sudden car crash out of nowhere and then… That’s it.
No resolution, no
explanation for its central mystery, nothing but a brief title card urging viewers
to head online and check out the film’s official site—which is now a dead link.
Truly impressive nerve there, William.
