5. Transformers
The Transformers franchise is the poster child for why many people view movie executives in the same light as used car salesmen. Michael Bay intends to use Transformers 4 as the launching point for another trilogy. Transformers 3 somehow made well over $1 billion at the box office globally - becoming the 9th highest grossed movie in history. That means Transformers are here to stay. Virtually all of the original human characters from the first three Transformers movies - most notably Shia LeBeouf's Sam Witwicky - are gone now. Will the Transformers faithful embrace all new human and robotic characters who were unconnected to those films? How many trilogies is enough? How many movies are enough? I guess we'll see over time. Obviously, Paramount and DreamWorks and Hasbro have jointly decided to ride this franchise into the cold, hard ground.
