10 Blockbusters From 2016 That Should Win Oscars (But Won't)
2. The Magnificent Seven (Best Sound Mixing & Best Sound Editing)
Why It Should Win: This is one gorgeously composed movie from top to bottom, and some of the strongest work comes by way of the savagely violent sound editing (the creation of the various gunshots, stabbings, explosions and horse clops) and deftly-balanced mixing (combining these effects into the final soundscape with dialogue and score).
After all, these categories have been awarded to blockbusters such as Mad Max: Fury Road, Skyfall, Inception and The Bourne Ultimatum in recent years, so why not spread the love a little?
Why It Won't: These categories are extremely crowded because they play so strongly to both blockbusters and "prestige" pictures, and the major threat here is probably Damien Chazelle's La La Land, considering that it's a musical, it's been earning insane reviews already, and Chazelle's previous film (Whiplash) was a surprise Oscar hit in 2015, even winning the Sound Mixing award.
