10 Books For Younger Readers That Should Be Movies

3. The Magician's Nephew

41l61zuohdL._AA160_ Yes, I know that they've done The Chronicles of Narnia. I was thrilled with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, nonplussed by parts of Prince Caspian and exasperated by The Voyage of the Dawn-Treader. I have loved the series since a family friend gave it to me for my eighth birthday. When I looked this title up on various sites, I saw that there is a movie "in development." I really hope that it means they're going to take a crack at my favorite of the Narnia books. As with the other books in C.S. Lewis' series, you'd be pretty hard-pressed to miss the religious symbolism. If nothing else, the Adam and Eve story is presented. It is a great origins book. It explains how the wardrobe came to be and why there is a British streetlamp in a magical world. It introduces Aslan to Narnia for the first time. It explains just who the Professor is in all of this. But there are flat-out brilliant parts that have to someday make it onto the big screen. My number one choice for a screencap is The White Witch terrorizing London in a horse-drawn carriage.

That's Kaki pronounced like the pants, thank you very much, my family nickname and writing name. I am a Red Sox-loving, Doctor Who-quoting, Shaara-reading walking string quartet of a Mormon writer from Boston. I currently work 40 hours at a stressful desk job with a salary that lets me pick up and travel to places like Ireland or Philadelphia. I have no husband or kids, but I have five nephews to keep me entertained. When not writing, working or eating too much Indian food, I'm always looking for something new to learn, whether it's French or family history.
