10 Brilliant Films That Are Easy Targets For Haters
1. The Godfather Part III (1990)
Francis Ford Coppola certainly had an uphill battle ahead of him when he decided to direct The Godfather Part III, the final chapter of his legendary trilogy some sixteen years after The Godfather Part II took home Best Picture. Time had passed, the story had faded a bit, but Coppola still had a story to tell. The troubling life and trajectory, and the dark mythos of Michael Corleone still had a final act.
Upon its release, The Godfather Part III was recognized as a wonderful film in the vein of the first two; only something was off. There was something about this third installment that kept it at arm’s length, especially when held to the standard set by the first two classics. Thus, The Godfather Part III become the most divisive and polarizing film of the three.
Sure, it isn't a classic like its predecessors, but The Godfather Part III is still an exceptional film. There’s a level of cinematic artistry to the picture that the countless mob movies and TV shows that followed have rarely been able to match.
Most importantly, there needed to be a Godfather III. Brilliant as it was, Part II just didn't feel like the end to a story, it felt like an epic middle act. But all great stories, of course, need a great ending, and even if it wasn't perfect, Godfather fans should feel blessed to have gotten an ending as inspired as the one they ultimately got.
