10 Cancelled Horror Movies We'll Never Get To See

1. The Train

Though Ridley Scott deserves tons of praise for directing Alien, the sci-fi saga wouldn't have had the same impact if it weren't for H.R. Giger's masterful design of the Xenomorph. As such, the pair have always been intertwined with the cosmic franchise.

But during the 1980s, Giger and Scott could've worked on another project called The Train. Giger was inspired by nightmares he had as a child of a living train travelling through a biomechanical landscape, populated by grotesque creatures, distorted humanoids, and organic machines. The Train was envisioned as an avant-garde horror with no traditional plot - though, interestingly, the concept, design, and structure sounds incredibly similar to Phil Tippett's Mad God.

However, securing financing for such an experimental movie proved to be extremely difficult. Despite being heavily respected, Giger was often considered too nontraditional for mainstream cinema, which contributed to The Train getting the boot.

It's not all bad news, though, as while working on a dream sequence in Species, Giger seized an opportunity and threw in his organic train idea.

It's a shame The Train never came to be, but at least a small part of H.R. Giger's vision managed to survive.
