10 Cancelled Horror Movies We'll Never Get To See
3. Tobe Hooper's Spider-Man
Sam Raimi's Spider-Man hit theatres back in 2002, changing the landscape of superhero blockbusters forever. However, the Web-slinger could've come to the big screen much earlier- no, not James Cameron's terrible version - as during the 1980s, Texas Chainsaw Massacre director, Tobe Hooper, was eyed to helm a Spider-Man film, produced by Cannon.
The higher-ups at Cannon knew nothing about the comics and assumed ol' Web-head was a hybrid monster like The Wolf Man. With this misconception in mind, Leslie Stevens wrote a treatment for Spider-Man: The Movie akin to a body horror thriller.
In this script, Doctor Zork bombards Peter Parker with radiation, turning him into a human tarantula. Though Zork expects Parker to rule over a race of super mutants, the spider-hero turns on the maniacal scientist.
Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee shut down all plans for this production because, well, why the hell wouldn't he? Comics fans wanted to see Spidey web supervillains and make wisecracks. They didn't want to see... whatever this was meant to be.
This adaptation was so disconnected from the source material, cancelling it was the only viable option. Having said that, who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to see such a nutty Spider-Man movie?
