Dead before it even hit the ground.

Just like Dark Phoenix, this upcoming X-Men movie was originally slated to be a trilogy, though even more so than with Dark Phoenix, that always seemed like a massive pipe dream.

You can pretty much copy and paste Emma Watts’ comments from the last entry here. This train is going no further, regardless of how many stations might have been down the line.

The X-Men spin off is out next year, and already it seems like they don’t have a great deal of faith in it. A planned trilogy condensed into a single movie, releasing under the cloud of Dark Phoenix and the MCU’s looming shadow, following several delays and reshoots...

Yeah, this is probably going to suck, isn’t it?

While Sophie Turner’s career may have suffered a set back after Dark Phoenix, it’s her Stark sister Maisie Williams who’s front and centre of this one.

Some of the movies here could really have given us something new and exciting, but after so many chances for the FoX-Men recently, it’s difficult to imagine that The New Mutants trilogy would have dug them out of their funk.
