10 Cancelled X-Men Movies We Almost Got

2. The Rest Of The Dark Phoenix Trilogy

Yep, at one time the disastrous X-Men: Dark Phoenix movie (which currently sits at just 23% approval on Rotten Tomatoes and looks set to bomb hard) was once slated to be the first of a new X-Men trilogy.

Recently, Emma Watts, the CEO of Fox, described Dark Phoenix and another upcoming movie as the final chapter in the FoX-Men saga. She also described the movie as ‘the perfect send-off’, which it definitely wasn’t, but it’s a definitive statement that a line has been drawn under the Fox projects and the characters now belong to Marvel.

Dark Phoenix was put through significant reshoots to avoid similarities to Captain Marvel, and if you’re planning for a trilogy only for two thirds of you story to be sliced off as you’re making it, that’s going to have a significant impact on the quality.

However, recent X-Men movies (aside from Logan and Deadpool) haven’t particularly earned the franchise the benefit of the doubt. Even without the MCU gobbling up the property, it’s unlikely the trilogy would have actually happened, or at least that it would have been in any way decent.

Some of the movies here could have been brilliant... probably not this trilogy though.
