10 Characters That Could Appear In X-Men: Apocalypse
4. Rogue
The Internet exploded with news that Anna Paquin's character, Rogue, had been cut from DOFP back in December after the teaser trailer of the film had already been released. A pivotal rescue scene involving Rogue that ran between twenty to twenty-five minutes ended up on the cutting room floor in order to reduce the run time of the film. The scene, which proves to be CRUCIAL to the film, has actually been described in great detail at this link (spoilers ahead as it deals with the end of the film. Considering how awful they have mishandled the role of Rogue, including her pivotal scene in DOFP being cut, it seems like the logical thing to do would be to give the character a do-over in Apocalypse. Especially with the announcement that Gambit would be introduced in the film. With Rogue seemingly no longer romantically-linked to Iceman, the films can depict the on-again/off-again, fiery relationship between the southern belle and the ragin' cajun. It would help to have Rogue in Apocalypse in order to effectively spin her off into the Gambit solo films that are being planned as well. Since Mystique has become such a crucial character in the X-Men films, and since they missed the boat completely in the original trilogy, developing a Rogue/Mystique relationship would be refreshing and something interesting to watch develop as Rogue's original backstory saw her become a member of The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants first before becoming an X-Man (as long as they don't give her that awful 80s mullet hair).
