10 Characters Who Were Massively Improved In Sequels
9. Luke Skywalker - Return Of The Jedi
Luke Skywalker has gotten some flack from Star Wars fans over the years. Whilst The Last Jedi stands as one of the most controversial movies both in the franchise and as a turning point in Skywalker's characterisation, you can sigh in relief that it isn't the film being talked about here, as it's undeniably Return of the Jedi that serves as the most developed and improved upon version of Star Wars' poster boy. The Last Jedi made some ballsy moves, but Return is what built the character up to get there.
Coming as the third in the original trilogy of movies, Skywalker was previously a whiny boy with little frame of reference for all the grand things happening in the galaxy, not understanding the nature of the forces he'd soon be embroiled with. With two films of learning under his belt though, Return of the Jedi is really where he comes into his own - capable, in control, and not snogging his sister - channeling all of his lessons into a calm, wholesome demeanour that allows him to take down Darth Vader admirably.
Gone is the whiny farm boy, instead we get a Jedi master that has continually been challenged and stayed true to his sense of self.
