Break-Out Role: Leon: The Professional Portman just sort of grew into stardom, her debut in Leon - at just 12 years of age - was highly acclaimed. She never went through a down period, she grew up, was in successful films and that was it. She was lucky that her first role caught people's attention for her genuine acting ability, though, otherwise it could have gone south for her. But in this day and age, she's seen as an Oscar winner with a body of work that has a healthy balance of box office success and critical warmth. Black Swan demonstrates her ability, No Strings Attached demonstrates her box office appeal. Whilst her performance in the Star Wars prequels left a lot to be desired, you can only blame so much of that on her. Let's remember that the script was able to make Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor look bad, and they're hardly chips off the old block. In fact, Star Wars is what established her as a mainstream star, which is why she's one of the highest-grossing actresses of the 2000s.
