10 Classic Movies We Need To See In IMAX

3. Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Though it might seem a little tasteless to transform a depiction of a very real event into "The IMAX Experience", Saving Private Ryan epitomises the essence of a complete sensory experience, such that it would entirely benefit from IMAX. Who can forget Spielberg's opening D-Day landing, in which he lingers on the brutal carnage of the Normandy landings, though manages not to deign to exploitation and tackiness as many directors would have. Rather, this is an effective educational tool, conveying the tragic brutality of WW2 on both sides while not being overly political; simply, it is a masterpiece of the genre and absolutely worthy of a big - that is, bigger - screen treatment.

Aside from that opening Normandy sequence, the film is a visual marvel throughout, while also managing to render sympathetic characters and a devastating wrap-around storyline, such that its emotional intensity would only be amplified in an IMAX presentation.
