10 Classic Movies We Need To See In IMAX
4. The Matrix (1999)
Who needs an introduction to The Matrix? The Wachowskis' sci-fi masterpiece generated an action film aesthetic - borrowed as it was from the "heroic bloodshed" cinema of John Woo - that essentially redefined Hollywood action films as we knew them; slow-motion became de rigeur, and it has undeniably left an indelible legacy upon the action film. In its own right, it's a hugely thrilling, smart blockbuster that practically demands multiple viewings, and of course, its numerous action sequences - especially its lobby shoot-out sequence - would benefit hugely from being shown in the IMAX format.
Who can imagine having virtually their entire field of vision encompassed by Neo's seemingly interminable fight Agent Smith? Though the sequels might have upped the stakes considerably, they never quite matched the sheer visceral, innovative thrill of the original film, an important and unforgettable action film that deserves a revival, especially in such a revered format.
