10 Clever Ways Horror Movies Foreshadow the Ending
1. Everything - Blink Twice
Zoe Kravitz's directorial debut doesn't just prove the Batman star is a natural talent behind the camera, but also showcases her skills at foreshadowing.
Blink Twice centres around a struggling waitress called Frida, whose life changes forever when tech billionaire Slater King invites her to his private island. Though Slater doesn't behave maliciously, Frida believes he's hiding something.
Sure enough, she discovers Slater and his accomplices have been forcing themselves on the female guests every night after urging them to ingest a memory-wiping chemical. Worst still, Frida learns she's been to the island before, but forgot about the assault on her due to the amnesia-inducing concoction.
Even though it was obvious something was up, few figured out just how depraved Slater's operation was. But all the signs were there.
Slater repeatedly tells Frida that "forgetting is a gift". While meeting Frida at the gala, Slater stops himself from saying her name, since he's pretending this is the first time they've met. Before heading to the island, Frida bumps into Slater's therapist, Rich, who helped orchestrate Slater's deplorable scheme. And when Frida says she remembers Rich after meeting him again on the island, he's noticeably flustered by this remark.
Blink Twice doesn't just foreshadow the twist, but also the final scene. While speaking to her friend in the opening, Frida states that "success is the best form of revenge." In the end, Frida doesn't kill Slater when she has the chance, instead taking over his company and reducing him to a compliant stooge.
