10 Comic Book Castings That Were Perfect (But In A Different Role)
8. James Marsden As Superman Instead Of Richard White
Poor James Marsden. With his all-American looks and charismatic smile, you would imagine that he has the pick of leading man roles in Hollywood, but for some unknown reason, he always ends up in a supporting role. Marsden's turn as Cyclops in the X-Men trilogy should have been his big shot at leading a superhero movie, but the producers said otherwise, dismissing the team's leader in favor of Wolverine, the fan favorite. Marsden then appeared in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns playing Richard White, nephew to Perry White, editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet. Unfortunately, the film didn't perform as well as expected at the box office. Some fans blame this on Brandon Routh, the unknown actor cast to play Superman at the time. Give Marsden a chance. He may not look exactly like Superman, but the actor possesses a wholesome quality that would have been a perfect fit for Clark Kent. While his role as Cyclops underwhelmed in the X-Men films, they did prove that Marsden can also handle an action sequence if needed.
