10 Comic Book Movies That Survived Behind The Scenes Turmoil

4. The Batman Curse - The Dark Knight Trilogy

It might sound like the kind of conspiracy theory only spoken of in crazy internet communities, but there€™s a very real chance that Christopher Nolan€™s Dark Knight trilogy is cursed. Although Batman Begins escaped the curse€™s clutches, The Dark Knight was struck by tragedy on and off screen. Stuntman Conway Wickliffe was killed during filming in late 2007 when the car he was in struck a tree and the following year, just a few months after he€™d finished filming, Joker star Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose, while shortly after The Dark Knight€™s release Ledger€™s co-star Morgan Freeman was involved in a serious car accident. Several minor accidents occurred on the set of Dark Knight Rises but thankfully nobody was seriously injured, though as we all remember just a few days after its premiere 24 year old gunman James Holmes opened fire during a showing of the film at a cinema in Aurora, Colorado killing 12 people and injuring 58. The Results: Curse or no curse, the trilogy was still a big hit and The Dark Knight went on to become the highest grossing film of 2008. Though the final film is often cited as being a disappointment, it's a matter of proximity and the trilogy ranks as one of the best ever released. To the extent that DC now faces a giant, ominous shadow for everything they make in the future.
