10 Comic Characters You Totally Forgot Are Already In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

4. Marcus Scarlotti

Who? Introduced in the late '60s, Mark Scarlotti was the very first person to take on the mantle of Whiplash, long before characters like Leeann Foreman or Anton Vanko picked it up. A perpetual thorn in Iron Man's side, Scarlotti often worked for the Maggia and even Justin Hammer over the years before Stark's Sentient Armor killed him. In the MCU: Scarlotti turned up in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s "A Fractured House," the sixth episode of its second season, as a HYDRA-hired mercenary who attacked a United Nations meeting and, later on, a S.H.I.E.L.D. safehouse. He ultimately fought Melinda May using an RDK - that is, appropriately, a whip with a knife at its end - but was beaten and arrested by episode's end. Why You Forgot: Now, the fight itself isn't hard to forget, though May has taken part in a number of more impressive ones, but to the casual observer, Scarlotti and his whip may come off as derivative of Ivan Vanko's Whiplash in Iron Man 2 rather than an adaptation of the character who had the moniker first.
