10 Comics You Must Read Before Spider-Man: Far From Home
9. Spider-Man No More
With the death of Tony Stark, the MCU's Peter Parker lost far more than just a fellow hero. Equal parts mentor, inspiration and father-figure, Iron Man proved to be pivotal in the early years and development of Spider-Man as a character.
The notable absence of the StarkTech Spider-Man suit in post-Endgame promotional material suggests that Peter's grief and unintended assumption of the Iron Man mantle will prove to be a defining arc for the character.
While this is a Spider-Man story uniquely tailored to the MCU, grief and frustration at failure have been core tenets of the character of Peter Parker since his inception. All of the greatest incarnations of Spider-Man, be they on the big screen or a games console, have felt the sting of failure and allowed it to break them. Perhaps most famously, however, would be in the iconic 1967 story Spider-Man No More.
Sick and tired of the constant barrage of disrespect, hatred and aggression from the public, Peter quite literally throws his costume in the trash and decides to live his life as a normal, supervillain-free citizen. A defining moment for an iconic character, Spider-Man No More is one of the greatest stories in the history of the character and remains one of the most powerful testaments to the indomitable spirit of a Superhero who could, to paraphrase a recent Oscar-winner, be any one of us under his mask.
