Release Date: July 13

Every now and then you just want to shut your brain off, put your feet up and watch stuff explode, and 2018's Skyscraper - starring the always-likeable Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson - should be able to adequately meet that need next summer.

The plot sounds as ludicrous as you'd expect: it follows former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader Will Ford (Johnson), who now assesses security for skyscrapers, as he heads on an assignment in China.

But before you can say "Die Hard", Ford finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and what's worse... his family is trapped inside.

Oh, and he's also framed for the whole thing. So many layers!

Skyscraper sounds very, very silly, but ultimately, there's nothing wrong with that. Backed by Universal and Legendary Pictures, the film's big budget should ensure it'll deliver on the action you'd expect for a July blockbuster, and with Johnson front-and-center, you can be assured that the movie will remain consistently fun and watchable.

Oscar contender this is not, but a good time at the movies it just might be.
