3.What Was In The Briefcase?
Pulp Fiction This question has been pored over by Tarantino fans for years. True fans know it doesn't really matter all that much when you think about it. Tarantino himself calls it just a Macguffin and a plot device used to necessitate the action, with one especially outlandish theory believing that it is in fact the soul of Marcellus Wallace, who spends the length of the movie attempting to buy it back. The orange glow that emanates from the briefcase could add weight to this theory, but it is not exactly a plausible answer when you consider the film is set in the real world. In actual fact, the most plausible answer to what exactly was housed in the briefcase is exactly the same thing that the characters in Tarantino's first feature craved so much, diamonds.
This is always a perfectly logical motivator in any film because anyone would love to have a case full of diamonds in their hands, yes diamonds don't exactly give of an orange glow, but they could quite easily have installed a small orange light bulb into the case to give them an extra air of beauty. When the characters are shown almost in awe of the contents of the case, it is easy to believe that they are staring at a large amount of diamonds, just imagine how you would feel if you were staring at a winning lottery ticket right this moment. It may be cheating to say that the original script actually revealed that there were in fact diamonds in the case, but the film itself never gives anything away and it is fair to speculate that the case could contain whatever you want it to contain, diamonds are just the most plausible answer.
