4. When Exactly Is It Safe To Feed A Mogwai?
Gremlins Before you cry that the film clearly states that a Mogwai should not be fed after midnight in order to keep it from becoming a vicious Gremlin, there is no actual explanation as to what time can be exactly classified as 'after midnight'. In the film, the Mogwai break Billy Peltzer's alarm clock in order to trick him into feeding them once midnight has already passed, but who's to say that Billy wouldn't have woken up at 7am, fed the Mogwai assuming that midnight had passed 7 hours earlier, only to find that they had turned into Gremlins anyway because of the extremely vague set of rules he was given. For me, the plausible answer actually lies in one of the other rules that the Mogwai must be kept out of direct sunlight, which is extremely harmful to them. This suggests that the sun has a strong power over the Gremlins and because the sun is never out at midnight (In the majority of the World), it is unsafe to feed the Mogwai at this time, but it is safe to feed them once the sun has begun to rise in the early hours of the morning. The fact that the sun has a strong hold over other creatures of the night such as Vampires adds weight to this answer, if it is powerful enough to kill the Mogwai, then surely it is powerful enough to stop them from turning into Gremlins in the first place. Of course if you're really worried that your new pet might become a dangerous, vicious, little creature you could always wait until 12 pm, the second half of the day is always going to be safe to feed the Mogwai.
