10 Craziest Things That Have Happened Since Disney Bought Star Wars

7. A "Controversial" Stormtrooper

Talented British actor John Boyega (Attack The Block, 24: Live Another Day) being cast as one of the leads in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was met with a very positive response, but when it was revealed that he would be playing a Stormtrooper, the "controversy" began. Was it really crazy of Disney to allow J.J. Abrams to pick the young black actor to star as one of the Empire's soldiers? Of course not, but to some people, it absolutely was. To some, a black Stormtrooper was simply unacceptable and it didn't take long for #BlackStormtrooper to trend on Twitter, with fans venting disgusting racist abuse at Disney's decision. In reality, the studio should be applauded for bringing diversity to a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Non-white male leads are still considered a risk by some studios unfortunately, but this bold move surely signals good things for the franchise.
