Fans are desperate for a brighter, more hopeful take on Superman, so is Red Son really the right direction to take the Man of Steel in? Not immediately, perhaps, but as Elseworlds tale go, this would be a fascinating tale to explore, particularly in today's political climate.
Written by Mark Millar, Superman: Red Son posted the question, what would happen if Kal-El's rocket landed in the USSR rather than the United States? Growing up to be a champion of Stalin and, eventually, the new leader of the Soviet Union, there are exciting new takes on characters like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Lex Luthor (who becomes the U.S. President).
Rather than predictably ending with an all-out nuclear war, Red Son is a tale with a lot of heart, and one that poses a lot of interesting questions about what it means to be Superman.
As there's been an animated movie that retold this story, Warner Bros. could take even greater liberties with the concept to freshen it up for the big screen, finally doing something new with Superman in the process.
